ABOUT THE ALBUM
Spiders and Widows was released in 2007 and came about after two years of songwriting. Many songs got tossed out or faded away in this time, and some can be found on the rare release Spiderejects (2007). In fact, the only song from the early batch of tunes to make it on the album is the closing track, "Being Down" with its laid back organs and down tempo rythm.
Late 2006 I was fortunate enough to be involved in a few situations that helped to add more inspiration into what I was doing; being unemployed, bad relationships, and being so far away from familiar places. Much of the album was finished within a 4 month timespan in my sauna of a studio, which at the time was located in Pacific Beach, San Diego.
The songs on Spiders and Widows revolve around the parasitic parts of human nature, good and bad, obviously a reflection of the surrounding ultra-trendy, gold gilded lifestyle. Most of the songs focus more closeley on the relationships between lovers, would be lovers, and the desolate lone wolves of the dating scene. But, not limited to heart ache, some of the most popular songs on the album touch on more serious political and social issues; consumerism, addiction, and terrorism.
The Johnnyville U.S.A. anthem, "Boozehound" was nominated for Internet Song of the Year in 2007 and "We're All Terrorist's" has been highlighted in numerous editorials, articles, and reviews discussing the songs contraversial political satire.
